Kailash Mansarovar Yatra concludes Now

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which began in June, concluded on Tuesday as the last and 18th batch of pilgrims left for New Delhi from Kathgodam in Uttarakhand.

"Before departing for New Delhi, the last batch of 38 pilgrims was received by officials of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) (the nodal agency for the yatra) at Sukhatal guest house of the Nigam and the members were given citations and memorials on completion of the yatra," Nigam officials said.

"A total of 910 pilgrims from 28 states of the country undertook the pilgrimage to Mansarovar and Kailash this year. The pilgrims were divided in 18 batches, the maximum number since the yatra started in 1981," Managing Director of KMVN Deepak Rawat said.

Maximum pilgrims to Kailash this year were from Gujarat, followed by other states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Bengal, Nigam officials said.

"The highest numbers of 193, 113 and 120 pilgrims were from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi, respectively, while the lowest number was from Manipur as there was only one pilgrim from the state," they said.

Talking about the last year's yatra, Rawat said, "Only one batch could reach Kailas Mansarovar last year as the routes were fully damaged due to heavy landslides and broken bridges on way to Nabhidhank, the last track route camp in the Indian side of the pilgrimage."

"We took extra care about the routes this year and selected four alternative routes. But we used only two routes alternatively due to some disturbances during the monsoon months," he said.

Mount Kailash is Lord Shiva’s Holy Heavenly Home

For many ages doing the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra has always been the favored way for one to show devotion and obedience to the Lord Shiva. This prompts many Hindu devotees according to the ancient holy texts (Ramayana and Mahabharata) to undertake the difficult and hard pilgrimage (Yatra) all in reverence of Shankar Begawan.

For in the Hindu holy trinity Lord Shiva is revered and worship as the dissolving force of the universe. Dissolving or death is the believed medium for the potential of recreation through rebirth or reincarnation. Therefore, Mount Kailash is believed to be the center of the universe and the source of creative power that radiates all around.

It’s no coincidence therefore that the holiest peak believed to radiate creative power and the center of the universe dwells in proximity to lake Manasarovar. Manasarovar which means Lake of Consciousness and Enlightenment has long held a stupendous adulation and reverence in the eyes of the Yatris (pilgrims).

For Yatris who takes a Snan (holy bath or dip) in its sacred waters are believed absolved from their past lifetime sins. It’s equally believed the washing away of sins brings one closer to the consciousness associated with the Lord Shiva’s holy and divine dwelling place at mount Kailash.

Looking forward to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra? Things to keep in mind!

Thousands of pilgrims and travelers take on to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra every year. Visiting this holy and striking place is indeed a delight and in fact, it is a dream for many. However, it is not one of those easy journeys where you just pack your bags and leave. It is rather the toughest trips you can head onto. But is definitely worth the efforts it needs you to make. This is a peace-filled sojourn, where your mind, soul and body are in search of the ‘unknown’ and it leads you to divinely experience, which you won’t be able to forget in this lifetime.

http://www.kailash-yatra.net/And by taking care of certain things, you can turn this sturdy journey into an easy one. So know what all steps you need to take:
-    First and foremost is your health. Think of Kailash Yatra, only when you’re in sound health and fully fit. Consult your physician to know how to improve your fitness and take time everyday for walk, as trip to Kailash requires strenuous and endless trekking.

-Quit smoking and drinking months before your trip. And carry general medicines for cold, acidity, dysentery, fever, body-pain, etc. Besides things like multi-vitamins, glucose, Vaseline, candies, masks and sunglasses could be of great help.

-This is one trip where it is great to carry as less clothes as possible, after all you would need to carry your belongings on your own during the trekking. Apart from that there would be no time to change, so wear in layers and besides clothing, carry inner thermals, woolen socks, gloves, monkey cap, sweater, a rain coat. Your tour operator is certain to hand you over a back-pack and down-jackets.

-Speaking of foot comfort, nothing is as great as non-skid shoes, as you would require climbing down the slopes.

-Due to lesser extend of oxygen at higher altitudes, you may face difficulty in sleeping, dizziness, fatigue, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, rapid pulse (heart rate), shortness of breath with exertion, etc. Slowly you’ll get used to it, still carry a can of oxygen cylinder is definitely a good idea.

Eventually, keeping a positive attitude during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is the key. Believe that you can do it and you will!

How to prepare for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Guideline For Kailash Yatra 2014:-

Climatic conditions:

From the border onward, the roads are plain. The high altitude Tibetan terrain is dry, cold, windy and dusty. Nights are pretty cold.

General preparation:
It’s important that you are in good  health. You should be able to walk properly. Carry some general medicines for fever, bodyache, cold, cough, dysentery, constipation, congestion, acidity, etc.

Clothing:
It would be a good idea to wear in layers. Essential for the trip are inner thermals, woolen socks, gloves & monkey cap, sweater, pants / jeans & shirts and a full body rain coat. Check with your operator.

The vehicles:
There are 2 types. The 3500 cc and the 4500 cc. Make sure your operator gives you the latter. They do have the power to cut across the rugged Tibetan plateau.

Travel in group:
I recommend traveling in packs of 4. Every vehicle will take 4 passengers and one Sherpa who sits behind. Being with your own group comes in handy.

The Parikrama:
Those who can’t foot it, have the option to hire the services of a pony or a yak. Make sure to let your operator know at least a day in advance. You may also need to hire the services of a porter.

Positive attitude:
The drive isn’t comfortable. It’s bumpy as bumpy can be. The vehicle air-conditioners won’t work (drivers refuse to turn them on); you can’t open the windows as the dust and chill become unbearable. I firmly believe that people with normal health can certainly make the trip and enjoy it too. There’s only one rule to follow – approach with a positive attitude. If you believe you can do it, then you will do it happily.
